A funeral for Lewis C. Bybee will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel. Mr. Bybee died Thursday at his daughter’s home from complictions of age. He was 90.

Mr. Bybee was born Feb. 11, 1900 in Vancouver and was a resident of the Vancouver area all of his life. He made a homestead of many acres east of Northeast 112th Avenue to Northeast 121st Avenue. He lived for many years in a two-story brick home along Northeast 112th Avenue he had built in 1932. Two years ago a development company bought his and adjacent property and built a 400-unit apartment complex on the site. Bybee Boulevard in Southeast Portland was named after Mr. Bybee’s family and cousins, who also were homesteaders in Portland.

He worked as a shipping clerk for Crown Zellerbach in Camas for 25 years until his retirement.

Mr. Bybee is survived by a daughter, Jeannine Phipps of Vancouver; a son, James L. of Milwaukie; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

The family suggests remembrances be contributions to the Kaiser Hospice in Portland.
